Povitica - A Daring Bakers Challenge

I seem to have become quite lazy in my posting recently, seeing as the last post was a daring bakers challenge with only one in between!
Unfortunately with work ever looming baking has taken a back seat for a while so I hope to get back to some regular baking soon.

In the mean time, back to the post. This months DB challenge was to make Povitica - also known as 'Nut Roll' ( I cant call it this, too many connotations..), a traditional holiday bread from Croatia and Slovenia (the DB post says Eastern Europe, but that was too general for me).
There are many different types of Povitica depending on which country you go to, but they all seem to be made from a basic sweet yeast dough, made with milk and filled with a nut and spice mixture.

The Daring Baker’s October 2011 challenge was Povitica, hosted by Jenni of The Gingered Whisk. Povitica is a traditional Eastern European Dessert Bread that is as lovely to look at as it is to eat!

The original recipe can be found here, so I'm not going to repeat it.

Generally the dough and filling were both pretty easy to make, but the handling of the dough when rolling it out was quite difficult as it got quite thin and a bit to large to handle.
I think this recipe is quite similar to a previous DB challenge I made; Mets la main à la pâte, which is another type of sweet yeasted bread. Not sure I'd make it again, but the
swirly design and unusual rolling technique was definitely fun!
